The spark behind this painting ignited when I spotted a weathered old car during my drive back from Montana to Idaho. Choosing the right color to make the car stand out was a bit of a puzzle, and after some contemplation, I decided to go with this captivating emerald green. One of the things that truly excited me about this piece was crafting the reflections and meticulously detailing the headlights, which brought a sense of depth and realism to the scene.
There’s something profoundly captivating about those abandoned vintage cars scattered across the western landscape, each bearing a fragment of history. It’s a touch of nostalgia that I can’t help but be drawn to. To create a sense of life to the history and offer a sense of life rather than abandonment to the old tin, I painted a cabin in the distance, a gentle reminder that even amidst the passage of time, stories and memories linger. As the final stroke, a flock of birds gracefully soaring through the Montana sky added a touch of movement and life to the open expanse. I wonder what tales that linger in that old car and its travels to unexpected corners of the world. I almost named it ‘Days By Gone’, ‘Ol’ Times’, ‘Good Ol’ Days’, Past Time, ‘Pop-Pop’s Truck’ before settling on simply, ‘Yesterday’.
