These prints are available in a limited quantity, capped at 50 hand-embellished, signed limited editions. Orders are subject to the artist’s availability, which may be influenced by her international travel schedule. Embellishments are solely at the discretion of the artist. Delivery may take up to two months due to artist availability, order processing, handwork, oil paint drying, packing, and shipping.

“Upstream Gold” Original Textured Oil Painting Canvas Wall Art Size: 24”w x 36”h
I love the colors in this painting. I utilized a basic primary palette consisting of orange and teal for two reasons. Firstly, they imitate the warm orange light against a blue sky during the golden hours, which creates depth by using color to create depth of field or light to separate the subject from the background. Secondly, this color combination has the highest contrast between their exposure values of any complementary color pair on the color wheel, resulting in a pop-out effect of the subject. As I painted from top to bottom, the composition gradually took shape. The top half flowed effortlessly, but the overall composition required several modifications. The original intention was to paint a snow-covered winding road up a hill, but what transformed was a river flowing…but in the wrong direction. My mother offered helpful insights, pointing out the uphill stream and the need for more debris on the forest floor. After making adjustments, the background trees flanking the stream added depth to the piece, and the finishing details of bringing the foreground trees most forward with chocolate purple and fading the background trees using a blended gray created a lovely effect. Two days later with the paint still tacky, I skidded a palette knife of mustard yellow down the trunks which really brought life to the work. Adding some broken branches on the ground (per my mother’s suggestion), adding reflections in the water using the horizon colors and providing snow shadows of Prussian blue helped to tie the work together. However, second-guessing myself after listening to my sister’s critique led me to make changes that failed. It took more than 5 hours and a few tears in frustration to restore the original work, teaching me a valuable lesson: Everyone has an opinion. Trust your instincts and stop when the work is good enough.
