Artist Inspiration: Painted as a contribution to Mountain Humane’s Paws Up Gala silent auction, Waiting at the Window explores a quieter interpretation of the evening’s celebratory spirit. While gala themes often evoke festivity and spectacle, I was drawn instead to something more grounded and deeply familiar: the silent hope of being seen, chosen, and loved.

The subject is a dog seated patiently at a window, framed by soft curtains, looking through the glass toward something unseen. There is no urgency or drama—only presence. The window becomes both barrier and invitation: a space between longing and belonging.

As I developed this work, I found myself thinking about the emotional in-between spaces animals know so intimately. Shelter animals wait. They wait for safety, for trust, for someone to come through the door and recognize their worth. In that way, this dog becomes more than a portrait—it becomes a reflection of quiet resilience, loyalty, and hope held patiently over time.

It’s a reminder that some of the most meaningful moments happen not in motion, but in the waiting. Psalm 27:14
