Still Watch (Greeting Card)

This painting was inspired by the spotted frame itself, which I discovered at a second-hand store. I envisioned various subjects—giraffes, dappled trees, and even a leopard—but ultimately settled on a cheetah. Using a palette of blue, gold, lavender, and raw umber, I created a Serengeti scene with horizontal movement in the sky contrasting the vertical lines of tall grass in the foreground. A giant pink-lavender moon forms the backdrop for the regal, stoic cheetah, sitting still in the grass, perhaps watching for movement—or simply feeling the breeze on its face.
