Artist Inspiration: This is the third time I’ve painted this lion — following Those Lion Eyes and A King’s Cup. Something about him keeps pulling me back.
In Lion Sips Tonight, he emerges from a darkened world of deep forest green and Prussian blue. There’s no presence of a moon this hour— only the quiet weight of night. The palette is moody and restrained, punctuated by flashes of bright teal and cadmium yellow that spark against the darkness with faint reflections on the water. The lion moves toward the body of water, powerful and deliberate, as if the forest itself has parted to let him drink. His presence feels ancient and quiet, a king arriving at his cup beneath the cover of night.
