Artist Inspiration: When I sold one of my favorite pieces, Those Lion Eyes, I felt a mix of elation and conviction. The painting wasn’t originally for sale when it was on exhibition, but I received a call from someone who wanted it. On a knee-jerk impulse, I quoted an unusually high price, almost as if to say “no” and expect them to turn it down. To my surprise, they said, “We’ll take it.” In that moment, I realized that maybe everything does have a price, or at least, that I had been trying to impose one where there shouldn’t have been. While I was thrilled by the sale, I felt a quiet tug at my heart: some things simply don’t have a price. That conviction stayed with me, and I knew I needed a version of it for myself. So I repainted it. Not as a copy, but as a way to reclaim a piece of my soul. This version is priceless to me, a reminder that art sometimes transcends commerce, and that some visions are meant to remain with the artist.
