For weeks, I wrestled with the concept for my next painting, an idyllic hilltop church against an autumn sky above a wheat field with hints of purple. My first attempts, however, fell short. Time felt short, energy low, and even small obstacles like cleaning up or worrying about canvas size kept me from picking up my brushes. The excitement I usually felt for painting seemed to vanish. Then, one restless night, I got a message from my friend Rusty around 4 a.m.: “You have talent, H. Stop watching so much Netflix and pick up the brush.” His words hit me, and I finally dove in. In gratitude for Rusty’s timely nudge, I named the piece after him, an acknowledgment of the spark that brought it to life.
