Artist Inspiration: “Tangerine Bliss” was born from a moment of sensory overload during an early October trek into the high country. As I rounded a crest on the trail, the afternoon sun hit a grove of aspens at a perfect angle, turning the entire mountainside into a blazing, incandescent wall of orange and gold. It was a sight so vibrant it felt less like a landscape and more like an emotion—a pure, unfiltered rush of joy.
I chose to approach this piece through abstraction and heavy oil textures because standard landscape techniques couldn’t capture the sheer velocity of that color. The title reflects that exact state of euphoria. The painting is an exploration of nature’s final, extravagant celebration before the quiet of winter. By layering the explosive, warm tangerine tones against the stoic green of the evergreens and the distant, cool mountain ridge, I wanted to capture the beautiful friction of autumn: the fleeting, ecstatic brilliance of change existing alongside the timeless, unyielding permanence of the earth. It is a visual reminder to lose oneself, if only for a moment, in the bliss of the present.
