I wanted to capture the feeling of an old Ketchum—where the past still feels close enough to touch.
The Pioneer Saloon sits in the background, with a bison skull on an old post, a worn blanket over a log, an old lantern, and a “Duffy the Kid” wanted poster adding a little wink to Ketchum’s Old West history. The sheep move through the scene in soft violets and purples, surrounded by sienna and burnt umber, giving the whole painting the feeling of an old relic from another time.
Last year, Duffy was Grand Marshal of Wagon Days while I was the official Wagon Days Poster Artist. This year, we get to celebrate another beloved Ketchum tradition together. Pioneer Days—the sheep, the Pioneer, the old West, and a little bit of Duffy the Kid, all woven into one nostalgic moment that feels like it could have happened 150 years ago.
