Artist Inspiration: I painted Moon Shadow as a love letter to the Northwest — a landscape alive with color. Bright orange and crimson poppies fill the foreground, set against rows of deep green evergreens and the rising purple mountains beyond. It feels both rooted and expansive, like so many scenes I cherish here.
The sky is where the painting found its voice. I scraped back the blue in preparation for a yellow orb but stopped short. That hollow became the moon — created by absence rather than addition. Its subtle presence reminds me of the rare moments when you glimpse the moon in daylight: quiet, almost hidden, yet undeniably there. The shadow not only named the painting but shaped its mood — steady, watchful, and gently overseeing the landscape.
