Artist Inspiration: The family who inspired it has long been connected to eagles—through shared experiences, milestones, and even the sky above them on their wedding day. At its heart, this piece honors Jeff’s son, Kyle. A place of significance to him is quietly held within the painting, with subtle elements reflecting love, loss, and remembrance.
The eagle is captured mid-flight, carrying both power and lift—continuing forward. The color came in fast and freely—layered, wild, and full of movement—beginning to feel like scattered, colorful ashes lifted and transformed.
Details within the piece hold deeper meaning—the mountain, darkened moon, fallen star, silver lining, sideways cross, my quiet signature on the left, and two small lights on the path to the summit—all placed with intention. The tension between being tethered in love and released into freedom felt true—to Kyle, and to the family. And through it all, I kept coming back to the promise:
“…to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes…” — Isaiah 61:3
