For Galena, I wanted to create something cooler and quieter. I painted the sheep in shades of blue and white, using heavy, textured layers that give the animal an almost weathered appearance. The cool colors remind me of the crisp mountain air and high-elevation landscapes surrounding Galena. I kept the background simple so the sheep would remain the focus, allowing its shape and texture to speak for themselves. The painting is my interpretation of the calm, rugged feeling I associate with the alpine county around Galena.
