John’s Lunker (Prints)

John commissioned me to paint this piece, wanting a fly-fishing scene in winter rather than the usual summer warmth. I pictured him standing on a rock in a quiet creek that winds through dark evergreens, its edges crusted with ice and dusted in titanium white. The palette is strong and moody—evergreen and Prussian blue layered with the hush of winter. His 7’6” bamboo rod bends against the pull of a hidden lunker, just beneath the surface where a flash of pale light hints at its presence. Sunlight filters through the woods, scattering across the water in ethereal reflections, turning this cold, solitary moment into one of quiet reverence and nostalgia.
