Artist Inspiration: This painting was a heartfelt birthday gift for my daughter Rio’s 28th. I was inspired by a photo I found on her Instagram, capturing her in action on the slopes. Rio is a powerhouse in high-performance skiing, proudly sponsored by the independent French brand Black Crows from Chamonix. I loved capturing the contrast of her bright pink jacket against the muted snow and towering trees on a tall, slender canvas that emphasizes scale and perspective. Painting the textured aspen and birch trees was a joy, and I used the negative space to create depth, letting Rio’s figure stand out as the vibrant focal point. If you look closely, Baldy Mountain peeks in the background, which was a reminder of her daily climbs. This piece is more than a painting to me; it’s a tribute to Rio’s determination, her love of the mountains, and the incredible spirit she carries with every ascent and descent.
