Artist Inspiration: I’m drawn to the vibrant colors in this piece Upstream Gold. I started with a basic primary palette, blending orange and teal to capture the warm glow of golden-hour light against a cool sky, adding depth and contrast. The painting evolved organically: what began as a snow-covered hill road became a flowing river, thanks to a helpful suggestion from my mother. Trees along the stream added dimension: foreground trees in chocolate purple, background trees fading into gray. A touch of mustard yellow brings a subtle energy, while additional details like branches, reflections, and snow shadows truly tie the scene together. Through second-guessing and revisions, I learned an important lesson: trust my instincts and know when a painting is truly finished.
