Artist Inspiration: On a recent trip to my son’s Montana ranch, I found myself drawn to the rolling hills and the sense of nostalgia they stirred. I envisioned a subtle western sunset to enhance the landscape and transport the viewer to a quieter, earlier time. Seated in a lawn chair in the shade of a horse stall, I painted a small plein air, spending a few hours immersed in capturing the essence of the land with a simple, muted palette. A distant purple mountain serves as a calming, off-color focal point, balanced by the quiet structure set into the landscape. The western sunset adds depth and warmth, casting a gentle glow over the hills and giving the scene a timeless quality. As I painted, I felt a deep connection to the land and the people who have lived on it, and I hope the work conveys that same sense of peace and stillness to those who view it.
