Artist Inspiration: A recent trip to North Dakota inspired my latest painting, showcasing a powerful bucking bull. Once again, I found myself deeply appreciating the ranchers and cowboys who are the backbone of our country, especially in the rodeo-centric community of Watford City, ND. My visit to Ivan Johnson’s barn fueled my passion for creating a bold cowboy piece. Originally intended to depict a bucking horse with a rider, the canvas size led me to choose a formidable bull, ultimately enlarging it to maintain the composition’s integrity. To balance the visuals, I added a giant blue moon. The vibrant contrast of orange and Prussian blue highlights the bull’s imposing presence. This artwork invites reflection on the human desire for challenges, exemplified by the daring act of riding such a powerful and untamed creature.
