Artist Inspiration: This painting celebrates Ritchie, John’s beloved golden retriever-lab mix, who carries the name of his dear friend who passed away. John often said his friend had “the same personality as a golden retriever”, loyal, joyful, full of love, so naming his dog Ritchie felt like the perfect tribute. Although this piece wasn’t commissioned, when John shared a photo of Ritchie, I couldn’t help but paint him. Sitting under the sun in a field of daisies and wildflowers, Ritchie shines with the same warmth and light as the friend he was named for. “Heart of Gold” honors not just the bond between a man and his dog, but also the lasting legacy of friendship, joy, and golden-hearted souls who never truly leave us.
